Intro to Slam Poetry & Spoken Word Creative Writing

Who Should Attend? Parents and caregivers of students in grades 7-adult + students in grades 9-12 AND YOU!
Special Information: No experience necessary, you only need to be a poet at heart. Participants are encouraged to attend all three classes. This course will be offered again in Session II on February 10, 17 and 24, 2011.

Description: Participants are introduced to one of the most popular forms of self-expression for teenagers: Spoken Word and Slam Poetry! We will write together, and with coaching, perform and speak in a language young people can connect with and learn from.
Course Objectives: In this course, participants will:
1) Learn creative writing techniques to facilitate poetry writing and performance.
2) Find out about poetry slam competitions and other positive outlets for adults and teens to perform.
3) Be in a space where they can receive encouragement and support for their own creativity, honesty and thinking.
