this year is going to be amazing. in many of the same ways that each year since has been a type of amazing. already there are many new beginnings, like new job opportunities and new people, new ideas and new places. i am no longer working as a facilitator with operation understanding dc, and last night was my last night with them after 4 years of working to bring together black and jewish teens around dc. i’ll still stay in touch with all my oudc family for sure, but i will not be influencing class 17 and 18 and beyond as much as i did class 13, 14, 15, and 16.
this summer i will be coaching the dc youth slam team, and taking them to the national competitions. we’ll be out in san francisco in july for brave new voices. here is a great young poet/emcee who shares the name John Tucker with me, and will hopefully be trying out for the slam team. he just graduated with oudc class 16, going on to big things. check him and i out on saturday at busboys and poets 5th & k. we’ll be hosting the youth open mic series. check the flier….
